Luxembourg joined the euro at its launch in 1999. Harmonised inflation (HICP) — the EU-wide measure the European Central Bank targets at 2% — stands at 4.5% as of May 2026. That is 2.5 percentage points above the ECB's 2% target, and 1.3 points above the euro-area average of 3.2%.
The breakdown shows core (excluding energy and food) at 1.2%, energy at 25.4%, food at 3.8% and services at 1.7%. The strongest pressure is in energy (25.4%), while core (excluding energy and food) is the softest (1.2%).
Month on month the headline eased from 5.2% to 4.5%, a step down from the month before.
Luxembourg's harmonised inflation is 4.5% as of May 2026 — abovethe European Central Bank's 2% target by 2.5 percentage points.
