This is the price a household pays per kilowatt-hour of piped natural gas, with all taxes, levies and VAT included. It is for a household that uses 20 to 200 GJ of gas a year (about 5,600 to 55,600 kWh), the middle one of Eurostat’s three household consumption bands (band D2), and it is the average over the half-year: January to June for the first half, July to December for the second. It covers the gas itself, network charges, meter rental and other services, with fixed charges spread over the kilowatt-hours. Prices in countries outside the euro area are converted into euros at the average exchange rate of the half-year. Price caps, regulated tariffs and support schemes differ between countries, so comparisons have limits.
